Fabrication Shop Output Scorecard
This scorecard helps shop owners and production managers review whether equipment, workflow, setup time, or outside processing may be limiting daily output.
How to use it
Answer each question honestly. If several answers are yes, your shop may benefit from a practical equipment and workflow review.
10 production questions
- Do jobs wait between cutting, bending, welding, cleaning, or finishing?
- Does setup time delay the start of production?
- Do parts need extra cleanup or correction after the machine cycle?
- Do you avoid quoting jobs because of table size, thickness, power, or tonnage limits?
- Do you send the same type of work outside more than once per month?
- Does one operator know most of the workarounds for a key machine?
- Does an old machine take floor space without producing enough output?
- Do customers choose faster shops even when your price is fair?
- Do rush jobs disrupt the schedule because one process cannot keep up?
- Would bringing one repeated process in-house improve control, speed, or margin?
What the answers mean
If three or more answers are yes, the issue may not be sales. It may be production flow, equipment fit, or machine capacity. The right next step is not always the biggest machine. It is the machine or package that removes the constraint.
Common next steps
Possible paths include a fiber laser for cutting speed and capacity, a larger table, higher wattage, CNC press brake workflow, sheet processing support, laser welding for the right applications, laser cleaning, or a trade-in upgrade review for older equipment.
