How to Prepare a Laser Cutting RFQ for Custom Metal Parts

Preparing a strong laser cutting RFQ helps suppliers quote faster, reduce assumptions, and avoid delays. For business buyers, contractors, OEMs, and procurement teams, the goal is not just to ask for a price. The goal is to make the part easy to understand, quote, purchase, produce, and repeat.

Laser Cutting RFQ Checklist

  • DXF, STEP, CAD file, PDF drawing, or clear dimensioned sketch
  • Material type and grade if known
  • Thickness
  • Quantity for prototype, first order, and repeat order expectations
  • Critical dimensions and tolerance requirements
  • Finish, deburring, bending, tapping, countersink, welding, or assembly requirements
  • Delivery city, state, and target timeline
  • Packaging, labeling, documentation, or vendor onboarding requirements

Why Quantity Matters

Laser cutting one prototype is different from cutting production or repeat-order parts. Quantity affects material planning, nesting, setup, packaging, lead time, and quote structure. If you expect repeat orders, include that information early.

When the Drawing Is Not Complete

If your project is not fully specified, send the information available. A supplier can often help clarify material, thickness, drawing requirements, and secondary processes before quoting.
